Budget request ledgers, 1939-1953.

The duties of the Budget Division of the Department of Finance include preparing the recommended budget for the governor's office and all state departments and agencies (Alabama Government Manual, 8th Edition, 1990). These records were submitted to the Budget Division by the various department heads to request funds for the upcoming budget period. They show actual expenditures in various categories for the previous period, estimated expenditures for the current year, and estimated requirements for the coming period. They also include revenue projections in addition to state appropriations, and a summary of receipts and disbursements. The records are for the quadrennium ending September 30, 1943; and biennium for September 30, 1947; September 30, 1951; and September 30, 1953.
